Zardari to get heavy mandate from provinces’

Sardar Riaz Dahar, district president of PPP, has said that PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari will succeed in getting heavy mandate from the four provinces and will become president of the country. Talking to The media Wednesday he said that some elements were levelling allegations of horse trading against the PPP government which were baseless as the PPP believed in the democratic values.

He further said the PML-Q had divided in various groups due to decentralisation of its leadership. The PPP leader said that working relationship between the prime minister and the president of Pakistan would be promoted and balance of power would be maintained.

Dahar said that the constitution would be restored in its original spirit and

58(2)b would be abolished in the interest of democracy and by this way the present and upcoming government would complete their constitutional period. He further said that establishment and army was not opposing Asif Zardari as presidential candidate.

He said deposed chief justice Ch Iftikhar Ahmad administrated the oath under the PCO in the past now the PPP government was offering him to take oath according to Constitution 1973 but why he was hesitant to take oath as per the constitution. The PPP government believed in reinstatement of judges for the supremacy of constitution and law and in the interest of democracy, he added.

‘No progress sans women’s participation in development’: Belal A Khan, vice-chancellor Islamia University Bahawalpur, has said that no community could make progress without active participation of women in its development.

He said this after signing an MoU between IUB and GRAP.

Prof Dr Belal and project director Aftab Faheem signed the agreement on behalf of the IUB and GRAP respectively.

Ministry of social welfare, women development and Punjab Baitul Maal established career development centre (CDC) in the five universities of the Punjab, including Punjab University, Lahore, University of Agriculture, Faislabad, Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi, Zakria University, Multan and Islamia University Bahawalpur.

Project Director Aftab Faheem while giving a vote of thanks to the vice-chancellor IUB said that women were playing their effective role in all walks of life. He appreciated the efforts made by CDC at the IUB. CDC headed by Ms Tahira Akhtar has been working since last one year.

Director students affairs, registrar and PRO were also present on the occasion.

Meanwhile IUB has announced the BSc and BA examination schedule second annual 2008 Wednesday.

According to schedule, the examination will be organized on November 6. Admission forms will be received up to Sept 16. Late fee will be received up to Sept 25 and admission forms will be entertained up to September 6 with double late fee. The examination will be held in Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and RahimYar Khan districts.

Distt govt sets up 18 Sasta Ramazan Bazaars: The district government has established as many as 18 Sasta Ramazan Bazaars across the district for the provision of daily use items to the citizens on affordable prices.
