Indo-Pak talks on Siachin to start today

Secretaries level talks between Pakistan and India on the outstanding issue of Siachin will begin in New Delhi from today (Monday). Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Akhtar Ali will be leading the Pakistani delegation while the Indian side will be represented by Pradeep Kumar. The Siachin issue surfaced when India secretly occupied a large part of Siacin glacier in 1984, triggering skirmishes between the two countries that continue till today.
Today’s will be the 12th round of defence secretary level bilateral talks resumed after gap of three years. The first round was held in 1985. Pakistan had been demanding an end to the Siachin occupation under the Simla Pact. Talks held on the issue so far had failed to bear any fruit. Located at an altitude of 5400 meters above sea-level, the battlefield’s temperature drops down to as low as minus 40 degrees centigrade where 95 percent of deaths occur not because of the fights but due to unbearably cold weather and difficult terrain.

Aisam & Bopanna get through 2nd round easily

It was smooth-sailing for Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and Rohan Bopanna as they launched their French Open doubles campaign at Roland Garros with a first-round win over Andreas Seppi and Simone Vagnozzi on Thursday.

Pakistan’s Qureshi and India’s Bopanna beat the Italians with a 6-3, 6-2 score-line on the fifth day of the grand slam in match that lasted 57 minutes. The IndoPak Express contested in several clay-court ATP Masters tournaments before reaching Paris, in a bid to avoid disappointment on the tricky surface, following their second-round exit in last year’s French Open.

Pakistan set to face Ireland

Pakistan is set to play a two-match one-day series against Ireland with Misbah-ul-Haq their fifth limited overs captain in three years. Misbah was handed the captaincy last week following the sacking of Shahid Afridi, who, it was announced on Tuesday, is not travelling to Ireland due to his father’s illness.

The weather could hardly be more different to that in the Caribbean the Pakistanis left barely 24 hours earlier before they arrived in Belfast here on Thursday amid cool, breezy conditions. Meanwhile, the Stormont ground, the venue for both matches, on Saturday and Monday, was too wet Thursday to allow Ireland to train.

If Pakistan can adapt to the drop in temperatures and not think too longingly of home after more than a month away, they should have enough all-round strength to see off the leading Associate nation. But anything less than a fully committed performance could see them struggling.

Since Ireland knocked Pakistan out of the 2007 World Cup, they have gone from strength to strength, defeating England at this year’s edition. And even one victory against Pakistan will consolidate their 10th place ranking in the ODI table, just four places behind the tourists.

Wasim denies any relation with Humaima Malik

The dashing widower and legendary cricket all-rounder, Wasim Akram, on Thursday declined any relation with 23-year old Pakistan model-turned-actor Humaima Malik, who recently was quoted in the media claiming to have close relations with Wasim and was widely acknowledged as his new girlfriend.

The situation has seemed to become complicated for Wasim, who had to think it necessary to deny the claims made by Humaima in his regular writing piece which appeared at ESPN Star Sports website with a postscript. “Contrary to reports in a leading daily, I am not dating any 23-year-old Pakistani model. My life is only devoted to my two kids.”

Earlier, Humaima claimed that she and Wasim had known each other for over one-and-half years and termed their relationships as health and entertaining despite a huge age difference between them. Wasim is 45 years old while Humaima has claimed her age just 23 and considering typical female psychology and ‘age-telling culture’ in our fashion industry it may be advisable to add a few years in her age but despite that the difference remained huge.

Electromagnetism created magic with colored balls

It’s art! It’s magic! With colorful balls, magnets and a dash of imagination… It’s one of the most alluring videos I’ve watched all day For this year’s F5 Re: Play Fest, held in April in NYC, the Physalia studio created this wonderful piece around the theme “Happy.”

They teamed up with motion graphics artist Gerardo del Hierro and decided “that happy wasn’t happy for Physalia unless pliers, microchips and a bit of soldering were involved,” and with this idea they created the happiest machine Physalia has built to date. Watch the video below.

Technology helps to save lives

The France made rescue and search equipment helped to save the lives of five policemen, who were deeply buried under the rubble when a suicide bomber targeted a compound of Crimes Investigation Department (CID) here on Wednesday.

“I believe the investment we made in procuring equipment and making the manpower able to use them has paid back in this single disaster,” Khushal Khan, the director general of Rescue 1122, told.

“It was a difficult search and rescue operation because the collapsed infrastructure was concert-built and locating the inmates under the rubble was not easy,” said Mr Khan. However the technology made it possible to locate not only the dead bodies, but also those who were alive, he added.
